Junior historians with an interest in politically and socially engaged history are invited to join a new London-based network for friendly discussion, organised under the auspices of the Raphael Samuel History Centre.
Prompted by recent debates around the history curriculum in schools, the commemoration of WWI, and the value of the humanities and social sciences to a society in recession, this network aims to bring together historians to discuss personal and practical approaches to the responsibilities and challenges of researching history today.
The theme of our first meeting is ‘politically engaged history’, and we invite attendees to think about this in advance and share their thoughts in relation to their own research. We hope to provide a welcoming forum for discussion, sources of inspiration for practical action, and perhaps links with relevant organisations outside academia.
There will also be wine and nibbles, and a great opportunity to meet other PhD students and early career researchers! For any queries please email janetlweston@hotmail.com or sarah.rose.el@gmail.com.
