Call for Applications: Editorial Fellowship at History Workshop Online

Call for Applications:  Fellowship—Editorial Fellowships at History Workshop Online

History Workshop Journal and History Workshop Online (HWO) are seeking to appoint one or two Editorial Fellows to assist in the running of the HWO website, social media channels and podcast.  This fellowship, valued at 2000 pounds per annum, is intended to support the successful candidate(s) to develop their own careers online and to gain valuable experience working as part of a journal editorial board.  Editorial Fellows would also be nominated to a non-stipendiary Visiting Fellowship at Birkbeck, University of London, and have access to library and IT resources there. Please note that the fellowship is taxable. The duration of the fellowship will be one year in the first instance, with a possibility of renewal for an additional year.

Duties and responsibilities: Fellows will be expected to contribute to the management, curation, commissioning, editing, and promotion of HWO. They will be given the freedom to commission (and write) their own posts within the mandate of the History Workshop (http://www.historyworkshop.org.uk/about-us/). Fellows are expected to promote HWO and its content regularly on social media, and to use social media creatively to help generate conversation and new content for the site. Fellows would be responsible for commissioning and posting a minimum of one post per month, promoting those posts across our social media platforms, and helping with the production of the History Workshop Podcast. While there are no set hours, it is envisaged that the fellow should devote about three hours per week to HWO duties.

Eligibility: The successful applicants will be early career historians, in their final year of their PhD or beyond, and will not normally have a full-time, permanent academic post.  Fellows are expected to have a strong pre-existing social media presence and online literacy and a demonstrable commitment to public history, history from below and/or radical history. Fellows should also have strong administrative and organisational skills. Experience using WordPress, Photoshop, or audio editing software would be an asset. Fellows will normally be based in the UK.

Eligible applicants are asked to send one file containing (i) a one-page CV, highlighting previous relevant experience and the names of two references, along with (ii) a cover letter (no more than two pages), outlining the way their work fits within the mandate of History Workshop, their previous relevant experience and online activities, and ideas for directions they would like to take History Workshop Online.

Applications should be submitted by 5pm on the 30 June 2017 to hwoeditors@historyworkshop.org.uk.
