Activist Histories of Ireland – Conference Programme

Activist Histories of Ireland presents a two day conference on 12-13 July in Oxford, focusing on the historical context of Irish activism as well as the political and ‘activist’ role of historical scholarship.

The conference will feature a keynote from Ailbhe Smyth, who is a former head of Women’s Studies at University College Dublin and former chair of the National LGBT Federation with a long history of political activism in Ireland. In 2014, Smyth co-founded the Coalition to Repeal the Eighth Amendment and in 2018 Smyth became co-director of Together for Yes, the civil society coalition that successfully campaigned to Repeal the 8th amendment.
